Alishan, Veiled in Luminous Mist

The concept for this artwork comes from our most profound shared memory of Alishan: watching the sunrise. As we wait for the first light of dawn, watching the entire mountain range gradually emerge from pure darkness into light, I couldn't help but ask myself: "Where did Alishan come from?"

Following this simple question, we looked back at the deep history of Taiwan. It is a massive and stunning journey through time and space. From 140 million years ago when the whole island was still sleeping at the bottom of the sea, going through intense tectonic movements to rise above the ocean, surviving the Ice Age, and finally giving birth to a rich and diverse ecosystem of Taiwan's endemic species.

Along with the flourishing of life, we also look back at the history of the past 400 years—from the early Austronesian culture, to the Dutch opening Taiwan's doors to the world, and the subsequent colonial periods. This is a rich but also difficult history. However, standing here in 2026, it is exactly because we have walked through these complex layers of history that we have shaped today's diverse and profound culture. It has made the Taiwan we deeply love, and transformed it into a vital hub driving global high-tech development. Through this main lantern show, we hope to condense this grand history into an immersive experience. We want the audience to deeply feel that this is not just an evolution of geology and ecology; it is our journey, and our story.

At the same time, we fully apply the belief of "sustainability" in our materials. We did not cut down a single tree for this creation. The artwork uses entirely recycled wood, including fallen trees from the severe typhoons in 2025. These trees, which fell in our living environment, carry the marks of time and the stories of nature. We transformed this wood, filled with memories, to build the main lantern structure symbolizing a giant sacred tree, allowing the cycle of life to continue within the light and shadows.
